DurabasePlus 100 for Extensions, Conservatories, and Porches!

Durabase Conservatory.

Southeast Windows can supply and install your new Durabase Conservatory using the versatile Durabase system. This product eliminates waiting for tradespeople to arrive, making it ideal for terraced homes without side access.

Conservatory Building Regulations Guidelines

A glazed conservatory is typically exempt from building regulations if it meets several conditions, including:

DurabasePlus 100.

We do the full package, including all the building work. Depending on what you want, we can do either a traditional build with 1-metre-deep footings and brickwork or a Durabase Conservatory using the DurabasePlus 100 system, which is BBA-approved and has the best U-values for the new building regulations implemented since 15 June 2022.

Efficient and Space-Saving Design.

Traditional building techniques typically require a minimum cavity of 150mm for insulation. The recommended thickness for PIR insulation in walls is around 125mm to achieve the recommended U-value of 0.17 W/m2K, resulting in a 250mm internal wall. In contrast, DurabasePlus 100 uses a galvanised metal carcass box with pre-fixed brick slips, resulting in an internal size of just 173mm. This space-saving design helps homeowners reduce their carbon footprint, enhance energy efficiency, and lower heating bills, making it an intelligent choice for green home improvements.

New Building Regulations.

Building regs table

From June 15, 2022, new U-value requirements for building regulations in England mandate improved thermal elements. DurabasePlus 100 meets these updated regulations, offering swift and effortless construction on padstone foundations. The system includes fire-rated walls for extensions on the neighbour’s side and comes in various colours and textures from the Britannia brick range.

Less Mess, Less Waste

Durabase Conservatory using DurabasePlus 100 arrives in kit form, requiring minimal excavation work for concrete pads placed strategically around the proposed area. This reduces the need for deep 1-metre footings and extensive waste disposal, eliminating the need for large amounts of C25 concrete to be pumped into the footings and a specialist bricklayer for the finish.

Modular Walls.

The modular walls comprise a robust galvanised frame with specially profiled building boards made to your Conservatory’s exact size and shape. These boards provide a base onto which genuine clay brick tiles are bonded, creating a durable and lightweight brick wall system. The frames are pre-clad and pre-pointed, requiring only the bridging tiles to be inserted over the frame joins when installation is completed. They are delivered ready for installation, saving time and money.

Laying the Base.

This picture displays different stages of work that have been completed. The base area has been cleared below the existing DPC, and a heavy-duty weed barrier has been laid down. Bricks and pea shingles have been placed on top to secure them. The steel base for the frame has been installed and levelled, and the galvanised brick carcass frame has been installed.

DurabasePlus 100 Conservatory Base

The construction project included installing a DurabasePlus100 base and a Conservatory featuring two fire-rated walls adjacent to the neighbouring property and French Doors at the front. A box gutter was installed along the back wall to manage rainwater runoff. Notably, the Conservatory showcases a double Edwardian glass roof with Pilkington’s blue self-cleaning glass.

Cost-Effective Solution.

Building regulations stipulate that you must contact your sewerage company if you plan to build over or close to a public drain. Unfortunately, you cannot build your Conservatory over a manhole using conventional concrete foundations since manholes need to be accessible by the Water Authority. They need to have full access to the sewer system. Also, internal systems such as manholes have an increased risk of flooding; therefore, building over one would never be advised. Instead, you could look to relocate your manhole if it is affecting your Conservatory building plans. A cheaper alternative is the DurabasePlus 100 system, which can be installed with a cutout in the steelwork for easy access to the drain with a double-seal inspection chamber.

The internal floor is completed with a double-seal drain cover, ensuring a high-quality finish.
