ISO CHEMIE INSULATION TAPES.

Since introducing ISO-BLOCO WIN2WALL, we have used Iso-Chemie insulation tape for many years. It is a multi-functional tape designed for the UK market to enhance the installation of A, A+, and A++ energy-rated windows. The thermal efficiency of the tape often gives the joint between the window and wall a better U-value than the window itself. It is weather-tested to 600 pa and expands from 2mm to 8mm. We loved it for what it offered for both our installers and the benefit it gives to homeowners.

ISO-BLOCO-ONE replaced Win2Wall as an upgraded insulation tape with better insulation properties and easy on-site installation. It effectively expands to fill gaps ranging from 2mm to 12mm and weather-tested to 750 pa; we have used this as our standard insulation perimeter seal tape for many years.

New Window U-Values.

Many window companies proudly supply highly advanced energy-rated windows that achieve B, A, A+, and A++ triple glazing. However, as of June 15, 2022, all windows and doors must have a minimum U-value of 1.4 W/m²K. The U-value, a key metric in energy efficiency, is quoted as watts per square meter per Kelvin (1°C = 1K) – W/m²K. A double-glazed window with a U-value of 1.4 means that 1.4 watts will be transmitted per square meter for every degree of the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the window. Therefore, understanding and meeting this requirement is essential for ensuring the energy efficiency of your windows and doors.

Draughty Windows.

Heat always seeks the fastest exit, often through the expansion gap around the frame, which ranges between 5mm and 15mm. This gap can be significant when the brickwork is uneven, giving you draughts and easy means for the outside cold air to come inside. Traditionally, the gap is filled with expanding foam covered with uPVC trim and sealed with silicone or low-modulus sealants. However, this method does not create a long-term, high-performance thermal, acoustic, or airtight barrier.

In fact, this type of window sealing approach leads to heat loss from the edge seal, resulting in an approximate U-value of 2.8 W/m K and minimal soundproofing as low as 10 decibels, significantly lowering the overall U-value for the window and location. It’s crucial to understand that promoting such excellent high-value windows and doors is futile if they are let down by an inefficient sealing method.

4-In-1 Solution.

1. The internal airtight seal has been tested at a 1,050 Pa pressure difference (20 times more than the UK Building Regulations), allowing less than 0.1 m³ of air loss.
2. The inside seal area is more airtight than the external one, allowing any trapped moisture inside the joint or within the wall to escape outwards rather than into the building.
3. The external seal area provides weather resistance and breathability. In contrast, the intermediate seal area provides extra thermal and acoustic properties, internal air tightness, and humidity regulation.
4. Once installed, the tape ensures structures are better protected from elemental factors like wind, dust and moisture ingress by accommodating the changes in structural movement caused by
   environmental, cyclical and settlement factors. In addition, the product complies with energy-saving
   regulations (EnEV) on windows and doors and the RAL quality assurance association.
