Window Insulation Tape

Window insulation tape: we have trusted Iso-Chemie Windows insulation tapes for years. Initially, we used ISO-BLOCO WIN2WALL, a multi-functional tape tailored for the UK market. This tape enhanced the installation of A, A+, and A++ energy-rated windows, often providing a better U-value at the joint between the window and wall than the window itself. Weather-tested to 600 Pa, it expanded from 2mm to 8mm, offering benefits for both installers and homeowners.

ISO-BLOCO-ONE: The Upgrade

ISO-BLOCO-ONE replaced WIN2WALL, offering improved insulation properties and easier on-site installation. Expanding to fill gaps from 2mm to 12mm and weather-tested to 750 Pa, it became our standard insulation tape for brick-to-brick openings.

The ISO-BLOCO HYBRATEC Window insulation tape takes insulation to the next level. It ensures airtightness and prevents heat loss through convection, offering superior thermal and acoustic insulation. Weather-tested to 1,050 Pa, this tape outperforms standard requirements, adapting to the challenges of climate change. Its 100% waterproof design eliminates drafts and water ingress, expanding and contracting with seasonal changes. This tape is ideal for modern homes, adhering to the “inside tighter than outside” principle, providing maximum thermal protection.

New Window U-Values

Since June 15, 2022, all windows and doors must have a minimum U-value of 1.4 W/m²K. This key metric measures energy efficiency. A double-glazed window with a U-value of 1.4 means 1.4 watts will transfer per square meter for every degree of temperature difference between the inside and outside. Understanding this requirement is essential for ensuring energy efficiency in your home.

Tackling Draughty Windows

Heat often escapes through the expansion gap around the window frame, leading to drafts. Traditional methods like expanding foam and silicone sealing do not create long-lasting thermal or acoustic barriers. This results in heat loss and reduced soundproofing, which can significantly lower the window’s overall U-value. High-performance windows lose their effectiveness if paired with inefficient sealing methods.

Its 64mm width fits a 70mm frame, expanding from 3mm to 14mm. This tape is ideal for use with Pilkington Optiphon™ Glass Units for superior soundproofing. By integrating multiple barrier layers, this tape is also a Passive House-approved component.

ISO-BLOCO HYBRATEC tape is applied to the front of the frame edge before installation, expanding to fill gaps and sealing the perimeter between the brickwork and frame. This 100% airtight seal prevents heat loss and improves energy efficiency. The tape offers UV stability for ten years and a life expectancy of 40 years, eliminating the need for silicone, foam, or trims.

Roy and his team fitted new windows and French doors in our house earlier this year (we wanted to live with them for a while before reviewing!). I got quotes from a few companies however Peter was the only one who followed up to my questions on email so I decided to go with Southeast Windows. I am super glad I did, as Peter was professional and I am really happy with the work done in installing a new PVC backdoor and replacing glass in several windows.
