Bow Windows
Sealed Tight, Fitted Right™ · Insulation Tape on Brick-to-Brick Installs
A bow window curves gently outward from the wall, built from three, four or five equal-width window units set at even angles to form a smooth arc. The result is more floor space, more light, and a striking feature from both inside and out — without the sharper, more angular look of a bay.

A recently completed flush glazed bow window — four equal-width panels set at even angles for a smooth, classical curve. Finished in white uPVC with A+ energy-rated glazing, and the sash sitting flush with the frame for a cleaner, more traditional look.
What Makes a Bow Window Different From a Bay?
The two are often confused, but the distinction is straightforward: a bay window typically has a larger central pane flanked by two angled side panels of a different size, while a bow window is made up of equal-width units — usually three, four or five segments set as equal sizes depending on the bow projection and the windows width — set at gentler angles to form a continuous, rounded curve. That even spacing is what gives a bow window its softer, more classical look.
Flush Glazed or Standard — Built to Match Your Home
We fit bow windows in both standard casement and flush sash glazed styles. The window frame sits the sash level with the frame for a cleaner, more traditional finish — ideal if you want the curve of a bow window with the timber-look detailing of our flush sash range. Whichever style you choose, every unit is surveyed individually to keep the segments even and the curve true.
Our No-Salesman Approach
We’ve been fitting windows since 1999, and bow windows are no different from any other job we quote: no salesman visit, no inflated “was/now” pricing, and no follow-up calls chasing a decision. We survey, we quote, and if you’re happy, we book it in.
Built to Perform
uPVC Casement Windows: Every bow window we install is BFRC energy rated, A+ or A++ as standard. With more joints and a larger surface area than a flat window, careful weatherproofing matters even more — on brick-to-brick installations we seal the perimeter with our insulation tape as standard, offering superior thermal and acoustic insulation. Weather-tested to over 1,200 Pa.
Building a New Bow Window
For a genuinely new bow window — where one hasn’t stood before — we build a new base to carry the projection and a new roof to match. We PIR-insulate throughout, use three layers of felt for reliable waterproofing, and finish the front in Code 4 leadwork for a smart, upmarket look that holds up over time.
Areas We Cover
We install bow windows across East London, South London, North London, and South Essex, including Romford, Chelmsford, and Basildon. If you’re just outside these areas, get in touch — we take on jobs in the surrounding towns too.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a bow window cost to replace?
Cost depends on the size and shape of the bow, the number of panels, and your choice of colour and hardware. We provide one clear, all-in quote after a free survey — not a generic online price.
Do I need planning permission for a bow window?
Replacing an existing bow window like-for-like doesn’t usually need planning permission. Adding a new bow window where there wasn’t one before is more likely to need consent, particularly if it projects significantly from the property. We can advise during your free survey.
Can I have a bow window fitted where one has never been before?
Yes — a new bow window is a bigger job than a like-for-like replacement, since it involves building a new base and roof rather than fitting into an existing opening. We handle the full structure, including insulation, waterproofing, and the leadwork finish, and can advise on planning permission during your free survey.
